Request a Book
Alta Community Library buys materials that we think are most wanted by our community members. Because of limited resources and space, we can't buy every book or movie that is released, but we are happy to do our best to fulfill patron requests either by purchasing the request for our library if we believe it will be of interest to other library users, or by borrowing from another library.
We participate in SILO Interlibrary Loan, Iowa's statewide interlibrary loan system. At this time, we do not allow patrons to place their own interlibrary loan requests, but anyone can search for materials held by Iowa libraries at locator.silo.ia.us. This service is only available through your home library, so patrons who live outside of Alta or rural BV county must make interlibrary loan requests through their home library system.
There is no fee for interlibrary loan requests, and we can usually procure any book, DVD, or CD you're looking for, provided it is available in Iowa. Most materials are delivered to the Alta Community Library within 7-14 days, and while loan periods may vary, you may usually have the item for two weeks.
Please provide as much information as possible when submitting your request. We will contact you if we have any questions, and you will be notified when your material is ready for pick up!
